I’m so excited about graduation day. It’s going to be really special for the 6 of us. I’m ready to move on and go into the grown up world and be someone. I’ll always remember all the moments I had on this campus forever. They have been so good. It’s been a great experience. I’ve been here every day. It’s a great place. Finally, I am excited to be on my own and be capable of applying for jobs. I might look for a technology and business field job. One day I hope to have my own place that’s not too expensive that I’ll pay for my own mortgage and payments. And one day have a wife and kids and teach them the experiences I had at school. After I graduate I still want to be in Best Buddies and have fun on my own.
I, Edward, went to Next Steps at Vanderbilt for college and it helped me to be where I am now working for AmeriCorps for the Kennedy Center. I work for the Reading Clinc, Pathfinder, and at St. Lukes for the Coalition for Healthy Aging. I am a board member for Best Buddies and a member for TASA for self advocates. I am a former employee for the Ymca. So far, I have been doing AmeriCorps for 11 months and about to start my next term in September, which will go through July of the year 2013. Then I will be done for good and then I will be out in the real world. I will be ready to make a living and be a grownup. My work skills are organization stuff like making bags for Lynnette so she can share about us to all around the world. And also sometimes I work on the database. For Pathfinder, I work on Access Nashville, which is filing surveys for restaurants to see they are accesible for prople with disabilities. I also help with Patty and Pam in the Reading Clinic and I attend to shredding and copying and wiping down tables. And also I work at St Lukes. I do office work and health screenings and companionship activities with seniors. And for Meals on Wheels, I am the smile on the team.
When I graduated from Next Steps last December, I was very excited!! It was a honor to be in the first graduating class at Next Steps. I have always been a Vanderbilt fan because a lot of my family members have gone to Vanderbilt for college or medical school and I wanted to carry on the tradition. Since my graduation, I have continued working at the Susan Gray School on the Peabody Campus and I just love it!!
Hello! My name is Elizabeth and I was in the first graduating Next Steps class that graduated last December. Going to college had always been a dream of mine, but especially going to Vanderbilt. Alot of my family members have either gone to Vanderbilt for college or medical school and I wanted to carry on the traditin since my older brother went to another college. Ever since I was little, I have always been a Vanderbilt fan. Since graduation, I have continued working at the Susan Gray School on the Peabody Campus and I love working there!
