TRIAD School Age Mental Health Workshop-West, TN

Vanderbilt’s Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (TRIAD) will provide a 2-day hands-on workshop designed specifically for LEA faculty and staff in Tennessee who directly serve students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or coach staff serving students with ASD. Attendees will be required to watch 4 Basic Online Trainings (BOTs) prior to attending the workshop. Attendees will receive continuing education credits for watching the BOTs. The purpose of TRIAD’s Mental Health Focused Workshop is to provide LEAs with knowledge and strategies to better serve their students with ASD who may have or are at risk for co-occurring mental health concerns.

Participant Requirements

  1. Attend both days of the workshop
  2. Watch 4 Basic Online Trainings (BOTS) prior to attending the workshop. Each Bot is 10-15 minutes
  3. This workshop is geared toward the following educators: Special Education Teachers, General Education Teachers, Speech and Language Pathologists, Guidance Counselors

Training Topics

  • Characteristics of ASD
  • Identifying common mental health concerns related to ASD
  • Evidence-based practices (EBPs) for supporting emotional/self-regulation
  • Strategies to optimize social and emotional well-being
  • Identifying community resources and working with family members to support social and emotional well-being

Workshop Format

  • Large group instruction, modeling, and discussion
  • Small group application and role play activities

Proof of Attendance

Participants will receive certificates documenting their participation in TRIAD’s Mental Health Focused Workshop and 12 hours of professional development continuing education credits. An additional 1 hour of continuing education credits will be awarded for watching the 4 Basic Online Trainings prior to the workshop.*

Follow Up IF APPLICABLE

There will be a 1-hour webinar led by consultants for participants to discuss plans for implementing strategies discussed in the workshop. Consultants will also share their contact information.

*Participants must attend both days of the workshop in order to receive 12 professional development hours.

This workshop opportunity is sponsored by the Tennessee Department of Education and is available to educators in LEAs in Tennessee at no-cost to participants.
