Next Steps at Vanderbilt University

Educational experiences beyond high school

Next Steps at Vanderbilt University is the founding post-secondary education program in the state of Tennessee. Based out of the nationally-recognized Vanderbilt Peabody College, Next Steps is a four-year nonresidential certification program for students with intellectual disabilities, providing individualized Programs of Study in the areas of education, social skills, and vocational training. Next Steps at Vanderbilt is a Comprehensive Transition Program designated by the U.S. Dept. of Education. This status recognizes the program’s merits and allows eligible students to apply for Federal Financial Aid for tuition assistance.

Mission

Next Steps at Vanderbilt is committed to providing students with intellectual disabilities inclusive, transformational postsecondary education in academics, social and career development, and independent living, while honoring equality, compassion, and excellence in all endeavors.

This four-year certificate program is housed in the prestigious Vanderbilt Kennedy Center with the support of the Vanderbilt University administration. Progress through each student’s individual program of study is monitored and supported by the highly-qualified Next Steps’ staff. Next Steps at Vanderbilt is guided by the mission of Vanderbilt University, the Community Creed, and the direction given by their advising committees.
