TRIAD Foundations of Autism Education - Elementary/Middle - Middle, TN

Vanderbilt’s Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (TRIAD) will provide a three-day hands-on workshop designed specifically for LEA faculty and staff in Tennessee who directly serve students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The purpose of TFAEW is to provide LEAs with knowledge and strategies to better serve their students with ASD.

Participant Requirements

  1. Register in two-person teams. Preference will be given to those teams that include one teacher and one para-educator who work directly together. Other teams of two may apply and state their roles and professional development needs. Teams should be highly involved and invested in common educational settings within their school.
  2. Attend all three days of the workshop
  3. Participate in a three-hour site visit at your school 4-6 weeks after the training*

Training Topics

  • Characteristics of ASD and its impact on learning
  • Introduction to Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
  • Evidence-Based Practices (EBPs) for teaching students with ASD
  • Strategies to implement EBPs to optimize learning for all students

Workshop Format

  • Large group instruction, modeling, and discussion
  • Small goup application and role play activities
  • Demonstration and hands on-practice with students with ASD
  • Planning and coaching with TRIAD Educational Consultants
  • Individualized goals and action plans

Proof of Attendance

Participants will receive certificates documenting their participation in the Foundations of Autism Education workshop and and 21 hours of professional development.*

Follow Up

Participate in a three-hour site visit at your school 4-6 weeks after the training.** Monthly remote consultations via teleconfrencing, phone, or e-mail up to 1 hour per month for the duration of the school year.

*Participants must attend all three days of the workshop and complete the site visit in order to receive 21 professional development hours.

This workshop opportunity is sponsored by the Tennessee Department of Education and is available to educators in LEAs in Tennessee at no-cost to participants.
