TRIAD Explicit Instruction Webinar Series: Effective Cross-curricular Vocabulary Instruction - Webinar 2

Vanderbilt’s Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (TRIAD) will provide a four-part webinar series designed to help general and special educators design vocabulary instruction for ELA, math, science and social studies.

Participant Requirements

  • Attend all 4 webinars. If participants cannot attend all webinars, we ask that they watch the archived webinar that they missed, as each webinar builds on topics from previous sessions./il> >

Suggested Participants

  • This workshop will be most applicable to General Education and Special Education teachers who: Teach reading, writing, math, science, or social studies to students in Kindergarten through High School, Support students who receive the majority or all of their services in the inclusive or pull-out setting, Educate students who will take the TNReady and perform within 3 grade levels of their current school grade

Webinar Series Topics

  • Designing lessons for teaching vocabulary in all content areas
  • Selecting vocabulary words for instruction
  • Creating student friendly explanations
  • Developing examples and non-examples for vocabulary instruction
  • Augmenting vocabulary instruction to ensure retention

Webinar Series Format

The webinar series will be broken into four subtopics. Each subtopic will be covered through the lens of a different content area.

  • Webinar 1: Teaching English Language Arts: Selecting Appropriate Vocabulary for Explicit Instruction
  • Webinar 2 – Teaching Science: Providing Student-Friendly Explanations and Developing Examples and Non-Examples for Vocabulary Instruction
  • Webinar 3 – Teaching Math: Designing Lessons for Teaching Vocabular
  • Webinar 4 – Teaching Social Studies: Augmenting Vocabulary Instruction to Ensure Retention

Proof of Attendance

  • Participants will receive certificates documenting their participation in the Academic Focused Webinar and 4 hours of professional development.*

Participants must participate in all webinars in order to receive 4 professional development hours.
