- Camps and/or Summer Programs
The River’s Way 2019 summer day camp for youth and young adults with disabilities runs eight weeks in June and July. Programming will take place at Sugar Hollow Park in Bristol, VA, and at the YMCA in downtown Bristol. The camp is open to youth and young adults with disabilities from Bristol, Washington County, Virginia and Sullivan County, Tennessee. Campers may also be enrolled from adjacent counties.
Sugar Hollow activities include hiking, swimming, disc golf, team games, crafts, stories, skits, Barter Theater programming and Bristol Public Library programming. YMCA programming includes fitness activities such as exercise equipment, yoga, and sports. Fridays are half days devoted to gardening.
Persons who need a one on one assistant must provide their own. (The camp does not have sufficient staff to care for someone -- with medically fragile or other condition, or problematic behaviors -- who requires constant supervision and/or one on one assistance.)
Transportation is provided by camper families who drop off campers between 8 and 8:30 a.m., and pick them up between 4 and 5 p.m.
