Overview of Interests
Dr. Ihrie and her laboratory are focused on understanding the connections between stem cells in the brain and brain tumors. They work with basic scientists, computational biologists, and clinicians to study pediatric and adult brain tumors and neurodevelopmental disorders, with the end goal of finding more successful and targeted treatments. The lab uses cutting-edge approaches to measure the features of each of millions of individual cells within intraoperative tissue samples, allowing them to reveal and target rare subpopulations of cells that are associated with clinically meaningful events like resistance to standard treatments and tumor regrowth.
Dr. Ihrie earned a B.S. with Honors in Biochemistry from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology from Stanford University, followed by postdoctoral research at the University of California – San Francisco’s Eli & Edythe Broad Institute for Regeneration Medicine, where she studied stem cells in mouse and human brain.
