Overview of Interests

Understanding the neuronal circuitry underlying vision and touch. My lab uses a high spatial resolution brain imaging method, called optical imaging of intrinsic cortical signals, to study perceptual and cognitive function. We are now studying how different networks of modules are actived by simple and complex sensory stimuli. By linking cortical activation patterns to sensory perception in behavioral animals, we can directly observe the neural basis behavior. Knowledge regarding normal sensory processes in the brain is critical to our understanding of issues regarding brain development, plasticity, as well as disease states and disability (e.g., blindness, phantom limb phenomena, recovery of function).
